We’re excited to welcome you for IV therapy at Inside Health.
To help ensure a comfortable experience and optimal results, please review the preparation guidelines below before your appointment.
What to do before IV Therapy
Hydrate
Hydrating properly before IV therapy improves vein access and also allows your body to respond optimally to the IV ingredients. Ideally, drink at least 2L 24 hours before your appointment and 500-750mL the day of your appointment. Adding a pinch of salt to your water helps your body retain more water in your blood. Please bring a bottle of water with you to your appointment, we can refill this while you are here.
Eat
Ideally, have a full meal about 1-2 hours before the infusion, but at minimum a snack with protein, carbohydrates, and fat 30 minutes before. This improves IV access to your veins and also allows your IV to be much more tolerable without nausea. We always recommend bringing a snack with you to your IV just in case.
Time
Most IV drips can take anywhere between 30-60 minutes. It might be a good idea to bring a form of entertainment like a book or headphones to listen to music.
Clothing Considerations
Here are a few attire tips to take into consideration:
• Put on a short-sleeved shirt or a loose top to allow for easier IV placement.
• Wear the most comfortable pants you have. They provide the temperature balance for the short-sleeved shirt you will be wearing.
Make Note of your Health
When you arrive, please inform your practitioner of any changes in your medication or new prescriptions, or changes in your health status, and mention any questions or concerns you may have prior to beginning your IV.
Rest
It’s best to rest after an IV infusion, with no heavy lifting 12 hours after your appointment.
