Class IV Laser Therapy

Do you suffer from muscle aches, joint pain, neck pain, back pain or any other physical conditions that are not resolving?  Class IV laser therapy may be what you are looking for!

While many treatment options address only symptoms, and not always the root causes of pain,  class IV laser therapy provides the long-term benefit of assisting the body in its natural healing process, without the need for pharmaceuticals or surgery. There are many therapeutic outcomes, including the reduction and alleviation of pain or inflammation, an increase in blood circulation, immunomodulation, promotion of wound healing and tissue regeneration. Class IV Laser is known to be a very safe and painless therapy, posing little risk for side effects, especially when compared to the long-term use of pharmaceuticals.

What Is Class IV Laser Therapy?

Laser Therapy is “A form of light therapy that utilizes non-ionizing forms of light sources, including LASERS, LEDs, and broad-band light, in the visible and infrared spectrum.” (derived from NAALT

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has grouped all lasers, for both medical and non- medical uses, into four classifications. “Class IV”  (or class 4) lasers include those that emit power in excess of one Watt. Eye protection is needed when using these lasers to limit reflected light exposure. The majority of scientific, industrial, military and medical lasers fall into this category.

How Does Class IV Laser Therapy Work?

In just 2-4 minutes, laser therapy uses photobiomodulation (the use of red or infrared light to heal and regenerate tissue) to penetrate the skin and underlying structures, provide energy to cells, and accelerate the body’s natural recovery process.

Potential Benefits

  • Reduced Inflammation, Aches and Pains
  • Recovery from Acute and Chronic Injuries
  • Used to Treat Skin Conditions Including Wounds and Scars
  • May Help Treat Neuropathy

How Long Does It Take for Laser Therapy to Work?

Benefits of laser therapy are usually felt after 6 to 12 visits.  However, when laser is combined with other natural healing approaches like chiropractic care, decompression, acupuncture or naturopathy, results can be amplified and accelerated.

Potential Risks and Side Effects

As explained above, class IV lasers are classified as medical devices. To receive FDA approval for these devices, manufacturers must demonstrate sufficient, valid scientific evidence that there is a reasonable assurance that the devices are safe and effective.

When performed by a qualified practitioner, this type of laser therapy is associated with very few side effects, often much less than pharmaceuticals. Because they are drug-free, non-invasive and non-toxic, they are considered safe and unlikely to cause side effects.

Using these lasers does require the use of eye safety goggles during treatments (an FDA requirement for Class IIIb and Class IV lasers). Eye goggles will be provided to you during your session at Inside Health. Following directions carefully is very important for avoiding skin and eye reactions.

Speak with your doctor if you have sensitive skin or eyes. Make sure to let your doctor know about any medication you’re taking and other treatment approaches you plan on combining with laser therapy.
